Why to become a Dive Master?
Becoming a dive master is a transformative journey for passionate scuba divers who
want to elevate their skills, share their love for the underwater world, and inspire others.
As a dive master, you step into a leadership role, guiding divers, assisting instructors, and promoting ocean conservation. This rewarding path offers professional development, global travel opportunities, and the chance to live a life immersed in adventure and marine exploration.
Whether you seek a fulfilling career or a deeper connection to the ocean, becoming a dive master opens doors to a vibrant community and a lifestyle of discovery.
Working closely with an Instructor, in this program you expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level.
SSI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. Divemaster is the prerequisite certification for both the Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor certifications.
What You Learn
During the SSI Divemaster program, you learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent study. You complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as training exercises that stretch your ability to organize and solve problems as well as help others improve their scuba. You put this knowledge into action through a structured internship or series of practical training exercises.
What you can do as a Dive Master?
- Certified Diver Supervision: Guide certified divers on recreational dives, ensuring safety and enhancing their experience.
Assist Instructors:
- Support instructors during training programs, including Open Water Diver, Advanced Adventurer, and Specialty Courses.
- Supervise students during training dives, ensuring safety and helping with skill practice.
Conduct Specific SSI Programs:
- Scuba Skills Update: Refresh certified divers’ skills to ensure they’re ready to dive safely.
- Snorkeling Programs: Lead snorkeling sessions and teach basic snorkeling techniques.
- Try Scuba/Try Mermaid Programs: Introduce non-divers to scuba diving or mermaiding in a pool or confined water environment under the direct supervision of an instructor.
- Perfect Buoyancy Workshops: Guide certified divers in improving their buoyancy control during workshops.
The Scuba Gear You Use
- You use all the basic scuba equipment and some scuba accessories such as a dive slate, dive knife, compass, dive watch, etc.
- It is highly recommended that you own all of your own scuba equipment, as familiarity with personal gear improves general scuba diving skills. You can bring your own equipment with you if you have some already, or buy what you need when you arrive
